Boston Conservatory (first) is established.

November 30, 1800

(Nov.) Also known as the Musical Academy or American Conservatorio of Boston, it is founded by Gottlieb Graupner, Francis Mallet, and Filipo Trajetta and located at Conservatory Hall on today’s Bedford Street (then Blind Lane). The first music school in Boston, and, according to some sources, the U.S., the school closes following a quarrel by the partners in 1802. The building becomes known as the Concert Hall, then Pythian Hall, and is subsequently dismantled and moved to today’s West Fourth Street in South Boston.
